Description
Ritme Celler is the Priorat project of the sturdy and irrepressible Albert Jané, who also produces wine from vineyards in Montsant and Terra Alta.
His winery here is located in Vilella Alta, just north of the town of Gratallops. The vineyards are steep and planted in soils composed mainly of 'llicorella,' the decomposed slate for which Priorat is famous. Albert has made a project of acquiring and preserving old vineyard sites from retiring growers and ensuring that they continue to be attentively farmed and productive.
The vineyards are planted mainly to Garnatxa and Carignan, with small parcels of Garnatxa Blanca and Macabeu in light-skinned grapes.
Vines are low-density and very low-yielding due to the nutrient-poor soils.
His work looks to maintain and promote the legacy of varieties and low-intervention farming practices traditional to the region.
