Description
Fruit Notes: Vera Vinho Verde is 100% estate produced and bottled. The fruit is sourced from 104 different plots, which helps to provide consistent quality vintage to vintage. Vines were planted in 1998.
Winemaking Notes: Harvest is entirely manual. Loureiro is picked first, Arinto is picked by mid-October and Azal sometimes going well into November. The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The juice settles for 48 hours before fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Vera is filtered prior to bottling, which occurs in February.
Tasting Notes: Vera’s texture, bright acidity, and medium body make it a versatile pairing. It has very light carbonation and low residual sugar, which allows for a balanced wine and palate. Arinto brings bright acidity and aging potential. Azal is citric and fresh. Loureiro is aromatic and delicate. The result is a clean, lively wine with flavors of lime and ripe pink and yellow grapefruit.
After 12 years living abroad, I returned to my native Portugal. A friend in NY suggested I find some delicious Vinho Verde to send to the States. I told him if he came to visit me we would find it together. We started with a basic, yet eccentric idea, to offer an exceptional Vinho Verde.
Vera meaning true, is light and fresh as the maritime climate of northern Portugal where it comes from. Drink it as my family does, chilled as an end-of-day relaxing drink, or as an accompaniment to light meals, like sushi and seafood, chicken, salads and pastas.
We think we found the Vinho Verde holy grail and invite you to decide for yourself.
um abraço, Rui Abecassis
