Description

Garnachas de Montaña is a new project of the Vinos Del Viento family of wines. It is the brand reserved for the Garnachas made in Campo de Borja, “The Garnacha Empire”, with old bush vines on mountainous slopes. These Garnachas have a different flavour profile and concentration than those of Calatayud or Cariñena or other parts of Spain.

100% Garnacha Tinta Hand harvested Old vines, Dry farmed 7 months in new and neutral French oak Campo de Borja is the self-proclaimed "Garnacha Empire" and rightfully so. It has an intense, dry continental climate with less than 400mm. of rain per year together with the old grarled vines which are more than 30-50 years+ old make an intensely aromatic wine.

Viticulture: 30-50 year old bush vines, which are dry-farmed and grown in the higher part of the Ainzon municipality. Calcareous and sandtone soils with reddish shades due to iron content. The grapes were picked by hand during the second week of October.

Winemaking: The fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 26º, with a prolonged maceration of two weeks. Afterwards it perfected for 7 months in 225L French oak barrels.

Tasting note: Deep and bright ruby colour. Intense nose displaying complex aromas of ripe dark cherries, red plums and hints of vanilla and spices. It is dry in the mouth with a harmonious balance, supple tannins and a very tasty fruit concentration filling the mouth with ripe juice, ending in a long finish.

Suggested pairings: Tapas, charcuterie, lamb roast, stew, poultry, cured cheeses. Recommended temperature of service: 14 ºC.

From the highest vineyard in the Somontano region in the Pyrenees mountains comes this fresh and balanced Garnacha Blanca Viticulture: The grapes are from a selection of vineyards at 650 metres above sea level, with poor clay calcareous rocky soil with lots of stones (canto rodado). The vines are more than 30 years old, dry-farmed, trellised and hand-harvested. Winemaking: The fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at 16-18 cº. Aged on its fine lees for 4 months. A limited production of about 6000 bottles. Tasting note: Pale lemon colour. The nose shows intense primary aromas of lime and lemon, cut grass, peppery rocket, jasmine and hints of cantaloupe melon. It is dry and refreshing in the mouth, with fresh stone fruit and citrus flavours with a persistent juicy and slightly creamy finish. Suggested pairings: Grilled salmon, roasted vegetables, cured cheeses, salads and as a refreshing apperitif.
