Description
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Argentina
LOCATION: Mendoza, Argentina
PEOPLE: Jimmy Gallivan, Owner | Made expressly for Loca Linda
Vineyard Notes: The Malbec vines are located in the Uco Valley. The vines are planted to a high density of 6,850 vines per hectare. This high density reduces the clusters of fruit per vine, which concentrates the beautiful flavors. The ground has an alluvial origin, and the texture is sandy topsoil over small pebbles. Soils are slightly alkaline and with a low level of organic material. This makes for excellent drainage and moderate vine stress.
Aging: 30% of the wine sees a short time in French and American oak. The remainder is fermented in a mix of concrete and steel.
Tasting Notes: The Loca Linda Malbec is very expressive; it shows black cherry, raspberry and violet. The entry is smooth and elegant with subtle notes of spice and oak. In the mouth, it is young and fresh with balanced acidity.
The Liter Bottle: The one liter bottle holds 33% more wine than the average 750ml.
Loca Linda translates loosely to "crazy beautiful." The name was inspired by an Argentine compliment for someone who is "crazy in a good way."
Crazy Beautiful wines are sommelier-driven wines made in close collaboration with friends, farmers and winemakers. The winemaking style is non-interventionist. The vineyards are sustainable. All the wines are bottled in Earth friendly large format bottles. The liter bottle contains 33% more wine and weighs less than the average 750ml bottle, which provides an extra two glasses per bottle and a lot less waste. Crazy Beautiful saved over 4,000 pounds of glass last year.
