Some years

When the climatic conditions have been particularly favorable, vintages often made from the oldest vines emerge and are essential for tasting during the winter.

These marginal vintages, representing low volumes, are aged mainly in barrels and often bottled without filtration and with very few added sulfites.

The vineyard

At the heart of the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny appellations of controlled origin in the commune of Cheverny itself, the 26-hectare family estate is located on the route to the Loire Valley châteaux (Chambord, Cheverny, Blois, and Troussay). Philippe Tessier took over the estate in 1981, which his father Roger had created in 1961. In February 2020, Simon, Philippe's son, took over the reins of the estate.

The microclimate is influenced by the Loire River and the forests of Cheverny, Chambord, and Sologne. The vines are planted in three communes: Cormeray, Cheverny, and Cellettes.

Three types of soil stand out: silico-clayey (Sologne sands), silico-clayey-limestone and gravel on faluns (ancient marine sedimentation), all on the limestone bedrock. Each of these soils gives particular characteristics, hence the interest in blending the wines.

Two appellations coexist: AOC Cour-Cheverny, a white wine produced with Romorantin, a local grape variety, and AOC Cheverny, which is available in white, rosé, and red. These are blended wines, with Sauvignon dominant for the white, complemented by Chardonnay and Orbois. For the rosé and red, Pinot Noir and Gamay dominate, with Côt in addition.
