Description

Winemaking Notes: Semi-carbonic maceration occurred spontaneously in fiberglass tank with native yeast. Julien aged the wine on its fine lees in a 3,000-liter concrete egg (no oxygen exposure). 10mg of SO2 was added before bottling. The wine was not filtered.

Tasting Notes: Sunier's Wild Soul is an unpretentious, light red wine that is meant for everyday drinking. It is fresh and pure, offering all the fabulous Gamay aromatics and textures.

Artisan vigneron Julien Sunier hails from Burgundy, and in 2005, he purchased “La Ferme des Noisetiers” (The Hazelnut Farm), which measures just over five and a half acres. The high altitude in Avenas helps with slower, cooler fermentations than the surrounding areas, which leads to gentler, long extractions. He tends to 10 acres spread across the crus of Morgon, Fleurie and Régnié. Sunier’s methods can be distilled into a single quotation: “don’t forget that wine is a grape’s memory, so take care of the land.” He practices “agro-ecology,” working hard to protect the biodiversity and fertility of the soil with the intent of producing wines that reflect the character of terroir. He has worked organically since the winery’s conception, and is pursuing Agriculture Biologique certification.
